The Fear Place

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Use this blog post to help you as you complete your work for this anthology selection. As you read "The Fear Place" by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, you should be very focused on making predictions and inferences using information from the text and your own knowledge.

Your predictions should be similar to the following example:
On page 188, Doug keeps his mind busy so that he doesn't have to think about his fear. Soon he will come to a place that is very scary to him. I know from my own experience how difficult it can be to keep your mind off of something that you are scared of. I predict that he will not be able to keep his mind off the narrow ledge.
As you read, we'd like you to try and make some inferences about the setting. The pictures in the text and the words the author chooses can be very helpful. Please record some of the words and phrases you notice below.

Here's a link to the larger canvas just in case you need it.

After you and your partner have read the entire selection, head over to Edmodo where we've made a group for this selection to continue the discussion with some comprehension questions.

Thanks in advance for pushing your thinking!

~ Mr. Moore, Ms. Vander Velde, and Mr. Ulrich
