Explorers: Group Project

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today you will begin working on your explorer project. You and your team will begin the process of researching your explorer. When the project has ended, your team will have completed four products to demonstrate your learning:

  • Notes: Your team will use a shared Google Document to record your notes.
  • Web: Your team will complete a Google Drawing to explain basic facts regarding your explorer
  • Presentation: Your team will create a shared Google Presentation to present to the class.
  • Map: Using a Google Map, your team will document the route your explorer took.
*The teams completed products will be housed on a shared Google Site.

Your team will become an expert group focused on your explorer. You will need to be able to answer ALL of the following questions about your explorer.

1. What motivated your explorer? Some things that motivated explorers were money, land, fame, and religion.

2. What country was your explorer from, and what country paid for their explorations? Be careful - they may not be the same countries.

3. Did your explorer interact with North American native people? If so, how did the interactions go? If not, how come?

4. How did your explorer impact cultures around the world? Some examples might include the Columbian Exchange, slave trade, new diets, and diseases.

Please read and think carefully! There will be more instructions coming.

Here are some resources to consider using - feel free to find more at the library or online, but beware! Not all resources are accurate! Just because it is in a book or on a website does not mean that it is correct.

and a couple of extras...

Push your thinking Dragons!
