The Atmospheric Bounty Hunter

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, we read Eye of the Storm. It is all about Warren Faidley, a storm chaser. You were asked to think of some "thick" questions to ask about his job. Thick questions are a bit difficult to answer; they require an explanation, and can't be answered in just a few words. Some of you may have found some answers in the text as you read on. But in some cases, you may not have found the answer.

We thought you might be interested in learning more about him and his work, so here is his website. You might also check this website!

When you comment on this post, please include some of the thick questions you had as you read. If you found the answers, please share them as well.

Push your thinking, Dragons!

~ Mr. Moore, Ms. Vander Velde, and Ms. Thumm

  1. Dear Mr. Moore, Mrs. Thumm, and Mrs. V,
Here are my questions about Warren Faidley and his work: My first question is how does Warren Faidley get the funding for his equipment? My second question is what kind of principles and equipment are used to predict different types of severe weather? My last question is what kind of principles and equipment are used for storm photography?

    1. I think that some people might not understand what you mean when you write the word "principles" and I'm hoping that you can explain in a bit more detail or possibly give an example.

    1. Ian,
DO a bit of research and let us know about some times when multiple tornadoes hit in the same area. It only took me a few seconds to find some news items that gave examples. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/dallas/tornadoes-cause-massive-damage-across-dallas-fort-worth-184640541.html

    1. Lexy,
Please make sure that your questions end with question marks. I am sure he feels good, because selling his photos allows him to continue doing what he loves as his full-time job. Does it talk about that in the text or the websites?

  6. Does Warren use a regular camera like when we take a picture?

Warren uses video camera, Doppler radar, and other instruments to learn about weathers.

  8. I asked how come he takes pictures instead of live broadcasting and he actually does live broadcast.I also asked how much do the special instruments he uses cost and I figured out that they can cost up to thousands of millions of dollars.Another thing I was wandering about is what happens if one of his instruments brake and what happens is the company he works for pays for another one.The last question I had was how many cameras does Warren own and it figures he has over fifteen different cameras.
