Defining and Comparing Quadrilaterals

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The last couple of days, we've been working on geometry. We've been trying to define and classify quadrilaterals. Today in class, we will go over even more specific and detailed information about these incredible quadrilaterals. By the end of the day, the following assignment will definitely let the world know how much you know about quadrilaterals.

Here's the job...

  1. Consider what we learned in class today. That's right. Step one is just to think - do a sort of mental review. 
  2. Study the diagrams below. They are the same diagrams that we spoke about in class today. 
  3. Write a comment to this post in which you compare the two diagrams. 
  4. In your comment, use each of the seven words that you see on the diagram at least once. 
  5. In your comment, make sure to include the following additional terms...
  • parallel
  • pair
  • opposite
  • right angle
  • congruent
  • adjacent
  • congruent
  • kite
   6. Consider the following questions about the second part of the diagram when you write your comment:
  • Why is the trapezoid inside the quadrilateral but outside the parallelogram?
  • Why are there a rhombus and a rectangle inside the parallelogram?
  • Why are there two squares, one inside the rhombus and one inside the rectangle?

  3. The rhombus and the rectangle are inside the parallelogram because the parallelogram has two pairs of parallel sides, and the rectangle has four right angles. The rhombus has four congregant sides.

  4. There's a square inside the rhombus and the rectangle because the square has four congregant sides and that will be in the rhombus. The other square is inside the rectangle because the square has four right angles and that will be inside the rectangle.

  5. Why is the trapezoid inside the quadrilateral but outside the parallelogram? Well the reason the Trapezoid is inside of the Quadrilateral but outside of the parallelogram is because a Trapezoid has 1 pair of parallel sides and, they Parallelogram has 2 pairs of parallel sides opposite each other. Next question is... Why are there a rhombus and a rectangle inside the parallelogram? Well there's a Rhombus and a rectangle inside the parallelogram because the Rhombus and, the Rectangle are parallelograms, that’s why it is inside the parallelogram. Last question is... Why are two Square, one inside the Rhombus and one inside the Rectangle? Well the reason their are two squares, one inside of the Rhombus and one inside of the rectangle because the squares have 4 congruent sides and 4 right angles, so the Rhombus has 4 congruent sides and a Rectangle has 4 right angles.

  7. 1. i think that a trapezoid is inside a quadrilateral and out side a parallelogram because you can call a trapezoid a quadrilateral

  8. The two diagrams are similar because the diagram that is like a family tree is the same as the one that shows you shapes because it shows us a better understanding of what the diagram in words is telling us.
    The trapezoid is inside the quadrilateral because it has four sides but outside the parallelogram because parallelogram have two have 2 pairs of parallel sides that are opposite of each other. The trapezoid only has 1 pair of parallel sides so it is not a parallelogram.
    They are two squares one inside the rhombus and one inside the rectangle because both squares are a rectangle and a rhombus. A square is rectangle because they are both parallelograms also they both have for 4 right angles. A rhombus and a square are both the same because they both are parallelogram and have 4 congruent sides.

  9. Question: Why is the trapezoid inside the quadrilateral but outside the parallelogram?
    Answer: My answer for this question is "No" because the trapezoid Cant go indie the parallelogram because the trapezoid has it's own category.
    Question: Why are there a rhombus and a rectangle inside the parallelogram?
    Answer: Because both of them have a quadrilateral with 2 pairs of parallel side.
    Question:Why are there two squares, one inside the rhombus and one inside the rectangle?
    Answer: A square is a rhombus and it's a rectangle that's why it's unique.

  10. The two diagrams have some similarities.
    One similarity that they have is that a square is in a rhombus and a square is in a rectangle. Also connecting to that, the word square is under the word rhombus and the word square is under the word square. These are similar because a square could be congruent to a rhombus and a square can be congruent to a rectangle (which the rectangle is mostly called a “special square”).
    Another way the two diagrams are similar is because the kite (if there was a kite) has two pairs of adjacent sides and the rhombus also has two pairs of adjacent sides.

  11. The diagrams have same things like they show where the shape is at. The l quadrilateral the four sided big shape and the trapezoid and parallelogram are inside because they both a quadrilateral.
    Why is the trapezoid inside the quadrilateral but outside the parallelogram?
    The trapezoid is not a parallelogram it only has one parallel side and it needs two parallel sides.
